Sheer Mag are a force to be reckoned with, as is continuously obvious on their new single, pulled from their forthcoming self-titled 7-inch on Katorga Works. “Button Up” plays with a traditional rock-n-roll sound, both lo-fi in its voice but super bright at its heart. Fuzzy chords coast in start-and-stop strumming patterns reminiscent of rock opera days of old, while a tastefully sunny guitar, clean and reverbed, flutters around in down strokes, offsetting Christina Halladay’s in-your-face vocals. Already having established themselves as much with their debut EP last fall, Sheer Mag’s sound and attitude on “Button Up” speak as a freshly awakened voice for the entire mega-umbrella genre of “rock”.
