Even if understanding the words in a Davila 666 are beyond your Spanish reading level, appreciating the band’s penchant for cool, clever songwriting translates. Davila 666 sport an easy-breezy surf rock style and classic garage attitude, and Pocos Anos, Muchos Danos is just that: a compilation of sixteen stellar singles from the Puerto Rico band. The rich seven-piece—who released a debut back in 2008, and several releases since—mix sugary pop melody with raw, retro-minded rock and roll. Their tales of love, loss, and lingering heartache are spun completely en Español, but on each track of Pocos Anos, Muchos Danos, the message is clear.

The band’s vintage vibes are perfectly suited to Burger Records, which releases Pocos Anos, Muchos Danos on November 4. Still, Davila 666 have a take on the label’s signature brand of West Coast cool that sounds truly unique; “La Killer B_tch” is a tongue-in-cheek garage rock twister, while “Primero Muerta” is a dreamy, wistful guitar ballad. The playful beats of “Alverez” are well-matched to the band’s jubilant harmonies, while “Sera, Sera” emits folksy, knee-slapping charm. But if there’s anything these tracks have in common, it’s their ability to make you feel fucking great. (Happy, even!) Timeless tracks that put a smile on your face? That’s universal.
