The Big Big Bucks, “Kick Rocks”

The Big Big Bucks.

Boston's The Big Big Bucks are the burgeoning bad boys of summer pop-punk and are celebrating the beginning of the season with the premiere of the first single off their upcoming release, Endless Bummer.

Kick Rocks is a prideful manifesto of a smart drunk, something often difficult to find in Boston (re: night of the Bruins win). The singing, not yelling, makes singer Joey McHugh's advice to “keep your phone and keys in your shoes in the corner of the room” (you don't want to be that girl) seems innocently helpful rather than didactic. With assertive guitar hooks and a sublime bass, the single is the first from a sophomore release that raises their pop-punk antics to a more mature state, while remaining sharp and fun in their rhythms and lyrics. Independently released, Endless Bummer takes an adult approach to a life of debauchery surpassed; good for those days when you just don't feel like wanting to grow up, the album can be found at their bandcamp here.
