Brooklyn ’80s dream-pop band Treatment display a knack for romantic and playful melodies on their newest track “Provacation (Places We Go).” The song’s soft guitars and dreamy synth melodies provide the perfect soundtrack to the John Hughes 80’s disco of your dreams. Treatment began in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 2012 where Harry Cubberly began writing, recording and playing basement shows in the area. Since the release of their first EP, Treatment has embraced melancholy and fractured pop-songs that demonstrate a maturity of The Psychedelic Furs or Human League. The infectious pop-punk hooks that carried the 2012 releases “Bad Dream” and “Wonder Why” have developed into a more glistening, ambient sound as seen on “Provacation (Places We Go).”
In the years that have passed, Treatment has evolved with an honest introspection that is both poignant and necessary. Cubberly dabbles in the feelings of immense uncertainty and yearning with equal measure. A gentle synth hook clarifies and underlines the song with a graceful unit that is heightened by lead guitarist Jared Reisch’s pearly melodies. Smears of chiming guitars lead into the soaring, echoed chorus, “All of these places you go/Hidden highways that nobody knows/They can take us back again.” In a potent strain of nostalgia, Treatment captures the moment when you drift from away from reverie and into a self-reflection of what lies ahead. A gentle echo flitters up and along a wending melody sighing with a romantic lilt. When asked about the inspiration for “Provocation,” Cubberly responded: “It was probably one of the first tracks I started to write for the album back in mid to late 2012. It’s a song romanticizing driving around New Jersey into New York. The feeling when you’re going somewhere or to someone special.” The entire nine-track EP Part of The Cast will be released on September 25 with limited vinyl pressings in October.
