Uniform’s sound captures the absence of light. The Brooklyn duo, comprised of members of The Men and York Factory Complaint (among other projects), put out their beyond brutal Our Blood/Of Sound Mind and Body 12” last year, and their forthcoming follow-up Perfect World LP delves even further into the dark limits of noise. The title track, and first single, is a grotesque and righteous diatribe of discomfort. Incessant fortified bass kicks dwell beneath Ben Greenberg’s synth mechanics—a terror-instilling alarm clock with a broken snooze button—and the increasingly growling rumble of his distorted guitar; meanwhile Michael Berdan’s disdainful snarls grow to hateful shouts, the recurrence of “I curse the ground you walk on,” acting as track’s closest resemblance of a chorus. Almost like a heinous rain dance, the track goes almost three minutes without varying from its robotic drumbeat, and almost five minutes before a snare hit occurs, slowly including lighter tom and cymbal ticks, to subtly intensify the aura of doom, until its sudden end.
