Wolf Alice's beautiful “Bros” was one of my favorite songs recently, all grungy and Los Campesinos!-esque, with the beauty of Ellie Rowsell's vocals cutting through the mix to sing to romance. Their latest single, the blush-worthy (in subject and cover art) “Blush”, is just as beautiful, if not more so—it takes a little of the lightness from “Bros” and adds in some melodrama, a slightly more serious edge, but all while maintaining a dreampop shine so bright and strong that it permeates all the way from the guitars to the vocals. Adding that onto the chorus overdrive of the melodies, it feels like shoegaze if it was given a chance to play in the indiepop ball tank.
