Wreck of the Zephyr's children's book LP

Wreck of the Zephyr

Much like the Wu-Tang Clan, Los Angeles powerhouse punk three-piece Wreck of the Zephyr is for the children. The band is named after a children's book about an old man who tells the story of a young sailor that learned to sail in the sky, but no one believed him. Wreck of the Zephyr are continuing its kinship with children's books by releasing For Helen, a vinyl LP with illustrated lyrics. Released on the band's imprint Pass The Fist, The album is illustrated by Gaelle LaLonde. Each page binds the band's lyrics to a little tale about a wolf, a skeleton and a bear cub.

We've got the debut for “Ignition”, which is illustrated by the wolf sitting dejectedly with a pen and paper next to a window broken by an overgrown tree. For Helen will get your kids into punk rock like The Wipers, The Descendents or The Thermals without putting their ears at risk of songs about “wasting all your money on shitty coke” or collapsing their fragile minds on the perils of religion. “Ignition” rides high on the “everything we gave will be returned” refrain, which will stick to them without imposing too much adult conceit. Later in the life they'll return to For Helen with a maturer understanding that songs like “Ignition” played small roles in their career as an enviromental lawyer.
