On Monday afternoon, Sacramento producer Dedekind Cut, formerly known as Lee Bannon, took to his Twitter to announce he’s ready to release his “limited edition” American Zen EP. Apparently, the EP will be released as a cassette through Hospital Records.

Bannon first announced the project was “coming next month” in a February 24 tweet, with a who’s who of guests including Philip Glass, Juliana Huxtable, and DJ Shadow, among others. So one could assume the release will be coming before next Friday, April 1.
Bannon’s upcoming project is welcome news to fans eager to see what sonic realms the non-conformist beat maven will explore next. After making his bones providing a modern re-interpretation of ’90s boom-bap with Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era, Bannon has expanded his craft over the past four years.
Since branching out as a soloist, he’s released two albums, two EPs and myriad mixes, displaying a fervent disregard for anything resembling convention. Generally identified with the drum and bass and jungle music genres, Bannon says his artistry is “100% free” with “no allegiance to any instrument or DAW.” Sounds like the making of a dope project.
UPDATE: Dedekind Cut has posted an 11-minute excerpted version of the track “Déjà Vu, in reverse” with a pre-order to the full EP in his Bandcamp. American Zen will be released on March 24 featuring the song, “Folsom lake 04”, which will only be available on the cassette. You can stream “Déjà Vu, in reverse” below.
