Saddle Creek Records has just announced their latest roster addition will be Philadelphia’s Hop Along. The post-Brooklyn Philly scene seems to be growing rapidly, with heartfelt bands like Little Big League, Alex G, and Radiator Hospital poking their heads out of the water. Hop Along is definitely in the conversation with these bands, where lyrics play a big role, but don’t subtract from the face-melting, indie-pop jams.
Hop Along is stepping into the studio this week to record with John Agnello, responsible for several Dinosaur Jr. and J Mascis albums, Kurt Vile’s Waking on a Pretty Daze and Smoke Ring for my Halo, Thurston Moore’s Thurston, and a ton of other stuff. While you wait for Hop Along’s next album you can listen to their most-recent full length, Get Disowned, it’s a doozy.
