In a statement released today, it was announced that Kim Deal has left the Pixies, a band she’s been playing with for 25 years. Though the news comes as a shock, and is maybe tinged with a hint of some of that infamous Frank Black drama, it’s possibly been coming on for a while. Here is a statement released from the band:
“We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.”
Deal had spent much of her life playing with the band, but with recent touring and promotion for her band The Breeders on their twentieth anniversary, it seems that the two worlds were struggling to co-exist. What it says for the future of the Pixies’ performances (they haven’t played together since 2011 anyway), remains to be seen.
