Protomartyr Cover The Stooges. Just Watch It.

Detroit's own Protomartyr recently followed up their 2012 album No Passion All Technique with Under Color of Official Right, a new collection of blue-collar post-punk aggresion that Hardly Art released earlier this month. We enjoyed it. Also from Michigan? The Stooges, whose 1968 performance at Ann Arbor's Michigan Union Ballroom found the ears of the right people and led to the group's first record deal with Elektra. The AV Club recently wrangled up Protomartyr to take them on a Honda logo-heavy tour of Ann Arbor and discuss their Michigan musical forebearers. You can check out the interview below, but the reason we're interested is Protomartyr's killer cover of The Stooges' “Down on the Street,” which the band rocked on the same Michigan Union Ballroom stage The Stooges graced nearly 50 years ago. Head over to The AV Club to check out that peformance.
