English electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco's new LP (their fourth) is entitled Whorl and, according to the Youtube page for the video teaser they've just released, was recorded in “real-time under the desert sky” in Southern California with each member using no more than a one synth, sequencer, and mixer. It took three days to record, culminating in a show at Pioneertown, CA venue Pappy and Harriet's, where they played the entirety of the album to roughly 1000 people. The barebones recording approach was intended as a Burning Man warm-up; making this record is their way of showing themselves what desert grit they're made of.
Whorl has a street date of July 9, via ANTI-. Stream the video teaser below.
