Slow Mass, born out of Chicago, IL, is pleased to announce their first official release – ever – through us at Impose Magazine. And I have to say, hold on to your horses. Their upcoming EP, Treasure Pains, is easily my favorite find this week.
This band and this music, was initiated by Dave Collis (vocalist and resident jack-of-all-musical-trades) and Josh Sparks (drummer extraordinaire) almost by accident. They were mere roommates while both of them played for separate bands, My Dad and Into It. Over It. respectively, but that didn’t stop them from writing their own music together. Eventually friend and guitarist Josh Parks and bassist/vocalist Mercedes Webb joined the team, and these four suddenly found themselves in a band of their own – post-hardcore Slow Mass.
With the help of producer Neil Strauch only two months after their first live performance, Slow Mass has come to bring us an incredible six-track EP. While Treasure Pains may be their first official release, they already have a solid foundation built in their Chicago hometown. Each of the six tracks sound wildly different from each other, but all of them manage to build a large, overarching picture when placed side by side – their fans know that this puzzle will be a fun ride as it transforms from an aggressive 90s rock sound into a beautiful, lively, modern jam.
Listen now to the wonderfully loud, sultry debut single, “Dark Dark Energy” – 13 seconds in, you’ll be hooked.
Slow Mass is also setting out on tour this fall. With a schedule this vast, more than likely they’ll end up in a city near you. Check them out!
