Atlanta garage-punks The Coathangers have announced their upcoming album Larceny & Old Lace, to be released by Suicide Squeeze on June 7.
Their brand of dirty, thrashy punk appears fuller and more energized on the new single “Hurricane”. Their debut Scramble was enormously successful, showing up on Rolling Stone, Blender and MTV.com, though its doubtful the hype damaged their street-cred, since long before that they were a band's band, touring regularly through various necks of the underground woods.
By the sound of it, their piss-off attitude hasn't changed, which is a pleasant surprise, but the lo-fi sound is gone, which some may see as selling out. Either way, their sophomore album is set to blow some speakers. They're also playing two shows in Atlanta before heading off on a European tour with The Thermals.
