In hard times, the most fun things are always the first to go. After 20-plus years of operating business, The Hangar Studios in Sacramento is closing its doors. Having recorded, worked, and shared powerful memories with some exceptional artists over the years, the loss of this landmark is a brutal one. The Hangar has recorded albums with some of the likes of:
Vetiver
Devendra Banhart
Thee Oh Sees
!!!
Au Revoir Simone
Little Wings
Wild Flag
And the list goes on and on. In the wake of the studio doors' closing, John Baccigaluppi, owner/producer/founder, has written a heartfelt and fascinating account of what kinds of people were to be found at Hangar and what great memories they made, including run-ins with Kanye West and people who didn't know who Ian MacKaye is. You can take a look at that here, but make sure you pack a few tissues. Additionally, Au Revoir Simone posted a bittersweet goodbye to the studio after they finished their record there in 2009—looking back, if they could have only known.
The last record to be made at The Hangar will be LAST by Little Wings. A great story about the naming of that record is on Baccigaluppi's blog post.
