As Record Store Day nears, and we continue to hype it with the fervor of a child let loose in the Times Square Toys 'R Us, the news of bands' special releases continues to unfold. The Black Lips have recorded and will release a 7″ with Icky Blossoms that features covers of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The 7″ will come out on Saddle Creek and if you want to get a preview before running around record stores in search of a copy, Saddle Creek has done a great thing and made a compilation on their SoundCloud of all their Record Store Day releases. You can listen at the end of this post.
But before you do that, there is even more exciting Record Store Day news to share, coming from our friends in Ty Segall. A few years back, Ty put out a release on RSD called Ty Rex, which was an EP made up entirely of T. Rex covers. This year's event will bring a 7″ called Ty Rex 2, with two new Marc Bolan covers being released through Goner. The release features a delay-heavy, grungy take on “The Motivator,” and now we have one more reason to get our asses out of our purple haze on 4/20 to buy some records. Listen to the track below.
