Big Ups are going on tour with Metz starting July 27, passing through Canada and the Northwest then routing down for a stop in Denver. Before tour, the band will be playing a string of New York dates with Perfect Pussy and Pissed Jeans. Dates below.
Tonight, Big Ups are playing a benefit for Creative Cycle, a program that raises money to buy instruments for public school music programs, at the Silent Barn along with EULA, Painted Zeros, and Charly Bliss. Creative Cycle is an artist-run group which provides arts and music supplies for public schools with proceeds from the sales of donated art and music.
“My music teacher in high school was a mentor to me, and the music room a refuge from all other stresses and turbulences of adolescence,” said Carlos Salguero of Big Ups. “I feel that it’s not only important, but a necessity of highest priority, that children have a safe and constructive space inside school to experiment, not just with music, but with any art. I know that without that I wouldn’t be where I am today thus I, and everyone in our band, want to help ensure other children have that same opportunity.”
