The Hackney-Based artist takes a strong moral stance with her art

Amahla has had an incredible year, achieving more in 365 days than many can hope to achieve in a lifetime. Her accolades include support from the Mobo Awards as part of their Help Musicians grant, as well as support from PRS For Music via their Lynsey De Paul prize. She’s also picked up support from The 405, The Line of Best Fit, Complex, Bandcamp and Earmilk. Aside from all of this, she’s brought an authenticity and moral responsibility to her craft, that’s rarely seen in an artist of her formative years.

Keen to keep sharing her unique brand of soul with us, Amahla returns this summer with a magnificent new single and a number of re-imagined versions of her debut EP. The new version of “River”, is a serene and powerful acoustic version of the EP track that explores the pitfalls and intrusion of social media in 2019.

“I wrote River on my basement floor before I released my first song,I was so disillusioned with what direction I wanted to go in. Sometimes you look at instagram and get carried away with what other people are doing in their lives you forget to value what you have in your own. When I sing River it reminds me to remain grounded and trust in the process.”
