Sing The Greys – Frightened Rabbit

“What’s the blues, when you’ve got the greys?” With that simple line, Frightened Rabbit cuts to the chase of their reissued 2006 debut, Sing The Greys on Fat Cat Records, a syrupy collection of moderate pop songs. This remastered version comes off layered and enticing, easily recalling similar British indie pop outfits (Bloc Party, Futureheads), while managing some sort of unique aura that’s won them some recent blog love.

Scott Hutchinson’s infectious smoker’s croon manages a semi-sweet to somber tone that carries the potential to burst open an octave into soaring choruses. It’s probably the most defining aspect of the album, one that shields them from the shelves of British generica lining a Virgin Megastore near you.
