“Back Bar,” the new single by The Ocean Party, is an upbeat, catchy testament about what it means living in a new generation. The single is off the Australian band’s upcoming sixth full length album.
The band is comprised of six members — Jordan Thompson, Liam Halliwell, Curtis Wakeling, Lachlan Denton, Zac Denton and Crowman. The premiere of “Back Bar” comes just months after their self-released cassette Mess and Noise Critics Poll 2015. “Back Bar” carries the band’s signature whimsical keyboard stylings on top of a steadier beat of drums and guitar. It’s lighthearted and fun, with a calming quality to it that I could listen to for hours on end.
The music video for “Back Bar” fits perfectly with the song — offbeat (in the good, odd way, not musically), and just as whimsical as the keyboard. The six members are featured against a white backdrop as they dance and rock out to the beat. Up close shots of the members and interesting camera angles play into the quirkiness of the performance. The video was shot in such high resolution that you can’t miss a single thing that’s going on, which is borderline gross when they zoom in to examine body hair, folds in skin, and liquids.
Kind of gives us the heebie jeebies. And I think that’s what The Ocean Party is going for. But it’s so awesome, we can’t keep our eyes off of it.
Look out for the LP this summer via Spunk Records and Aloe Music.
