Can A Sista Rock A Mic is a five day festival celebrating and showcasing local and global female hip hop artists who are generally unsigned and unaligned with the current tide of mainstream performers. The festival is organized by B-Girl Manifesto, a DC female hip hop collective/weekly showcase “celebrating the female energies in hip hop and beyond.”
Last year's events seemed to have gone down well, with the festival now in its third year and bringing in a slew of talents.
08 “Pure hip-hop with Ladybeatmaker competition with performances including Georgia Anne Muldrow and BAHAMADIA!”
09 “Cozy lounge vibe with DJs Frances Jaye and Earth1ne”
10 “Major party and live performances by Sy Smith, Yahzarah as Purple Saint James, Carol Riddick, Alison Carney”
17 “Something for everybody, art, food, spoken word and of course music with premium select DJs and live talent outdoors…”
18 “Grown and supersexy on the waterfront with much anticipated album release for DC's Afi [ah-FEE]”
