It'll be impossible for The Go! Team to duplicate the charm of their first U.S.-released album, Thunder, Lightning, Strike. That one was sort of the Platonic ideal of cheeze-smattered dance pop, indulgently peeling television theme songs from their escapist contexts, mashing them unabashedly with schoolyard cheers and old school beats. Their next, Proof of Youth, promises to be a complete departure from the tracks that won stateside bloggers a couple years back.
This time, the five members, who had once been hand-picked by one-man producer Ian Parton to replicate his creations, now contribute to an organically recorded album that promises to match the band's past output in energy, if not precisely in sound and style.
Their next outing in the states comes this October. Expect Proof of Youth September 11 on Sub Pop Records.
