With today’s breaking news that universally lauded debut album from Jay Som (aka Melina Duterte, also of Summer Peaks, seen recently touring with Mitski & Japanese Breakfast) will be released proper on vinyl & CD via Polyvinyl November 18-it is now our honor & privilege to present the following Week in Pop guest selections from the one & only Melina Duterte:

The Spirit of the Beehive, “White Weekend”

I am obsessed with this band and this song. It’s arranged so well and is sonically satisfying.

Angel Olsen, “Shut Up Kiss Me”

I love Angel’s voice on this track—great chorus.

Shelf Life, “Mortal Bus Boy”

Casey Weissbuch showed me this in the van a couple weeks ago. I love the vocal layers and guitars, sweet song.

Filter, “Take a Picture”

I have a ton of memories from listening to this song when I was a kid. Very hot chorus.

Japanese Breakfast, “The Woman That Loves You”

Michelle is the best and this is my favorite song they play live. I love the straight funky feel and how her voice soars.

The Postal Service, “Brand New Colony”

The album is full of straight jams but this one is my favorite and has the best ending.

Chet Baker, “Look for the Silver Lining”

Chet’s an amazing singer and trumpet player. I always put this hot track on any time I’m feeling down.

Madeline Kenney, “Signals”

Madeline is my favorite songwriter/musician in the Bay Area right now.
