Blitz the Ambassador is gearing up to release his fourth studio album Diasporadical. The long-in-the-works project has been awaited for over a year, since “Shine” was released as the second single on his personal site. Today, he’s hitting us up with “Heaven,” a dizzying collaboration with Tumi Molekane.
“Heaven” is part meta critique of half-hearted rappers, part lyrical exercise, part call-to-arms—and it works as all three. Both Blitz and Tumi masterfully ride the funky, bombastic, composition, taking us on a ride with their impactful penmanship and varied flows. Produced by Blitz, the beat is the rare Afrobeat, Funk, Boom bap fusion which manages to sound fresh and inviting in 2016.
Blitz waxes on systemic oppression during his verse, noting “from Joe Berg to Ferguson it’s all the same system” from Africa to America. Tumi rides shotgun, longing to “overthrow tyrants with a code that’s so silent.” Their sharp analysis of the universal flaws of the system, matched with an uptempo beat make “Heaven” a strong case for solidarity.
