Blood Moon, “Ghost”

Post Author:

Blood Moon is the new moniker for Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist Jesse Brickel, who’s recorded instrumentally rich electronic pop music in the past as Young Yeller. While the first single off of Blood Moon’s upcoming six-track EP maintains the same richness, it immediately strikes as coming straight out of the 80s synthpop craze. Punctuated by high-pitched synth sounds and heavy on the drum machine, “Ghost” is nostalgic in the best way possible.

Over a simple melodic hook and buzzing synths, Brickel’s voice resonates clearly and honestly. The song comes to its apex when he sings the heartbreaking line “I held the answers until you turned me away,” then the drums kick back in and the recurring keyboard melody returns in full force. The instrumental interludes here leave plenty of room for dancing and reflection on bygone days.

Cosmic Sands will be out on limited-edition cassette November 11 from brand-new LA label Imaginary Friends. “Ghost” is the first release coming from Imaginary Friends—we’re eager to hear what’s in store from the imprint in the future. Hear the track below.
