Elle Belle, aka Christopher Pappas, is a multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, and we’ve got the premiere of his new single “Knock on the Light”. This track is the 3rd single released from his 23 song double album, titled WAKO GUMBO, which will be released next year. His music has attracted the attention of artists like Misty Boyce, who plays keys for BØRNS, and she also guest vocals on this track, which just makes me fall in love with the track more.
This track definitely has a distinct alternative pop sound to it. Waves of sound interlock together, and even the vocals are comprised of layers and layers of voices. Every different layer of sound comes together and becomes a single cosmic groove.
The song itself balances a line of contemplation on how mundane human beings can be. The protagonist has no interest in engaging in conversation with other people, and then realizes he is a part of the problem. Eventually, he becomes aware that it is important to focus on the here and now.
Expanding on the track, Elle Belle says, “I set out to experiment with sound versus silence on this tune. I liked the idea of empty space being part of the groove and really tried to highlight it as much as possible. My friend Misty Boyce adds incredible background vocals to my many-times-over stacked lead – I was sort of going for an early 90’s RnB vibe, and she was able to channel that perfectly.”
