Emeen Zarookian, the man behind the moniker Spirit Kid, is doling out some advice that he himself won't take. In a new single from his sophomore LP, Is Happening, Zarookian encourages the listener to slow it down as he picks up the indie-pop pace far beyond a normally beating heart. His influences clearly span from the likes of 12-string guitarist Mikal Cronin to Boston contemporaries Bent Shapes, but there is a smidge of that bedroom vibe in this new track as well, something reminiscent of Younger Lovers or Hunx and His Punx. The track is a surefire toetapper, and you'll find yourself unable to take Zarookian's advice either. “Slow It Down” almost begs you to take off running.
Is Happening, Spirit Kid's sophomore full-length, will release on March 18. Tune in to find that at this link.
