Baltimore's Max Eisenberg, or the producer/beatsmith known as DJ Dog Dick, put out his first album The Life Stains this February, showing the world a fresh new side to avant-rap production. His new EP, Kcid God '97, released yesterday, continues along the lines of heady noise-rap, without going off the deepend of weirdness.
The raps on each of the EP's eight tracks range from MIA-style brat-rap to dazed Kitty vibes, to the alt hip-hop sound of Why?, with each beat grimier than the next. Highlights include “I'm a Bitch (Let Me Be Me)” and “Trip Wolf (feat. Conqubine),” both at the intersection of lo- and hi-fi. Eisenberg's beats reflect an attentive ear for esoteric detail, just poppy enough to drive safely to.
The EP is out on Hoss Records and streaming below, in full.
