The irony in stealing a Max B record for free download is not wasted here, folks. The rapper who's currently serving a 75-year sentence for armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and murder continues to be productive behind bars. His verses are not recorded with the phone reciever effect Dr. Dre used on The Firm's “Phone Tap”, they are actual recordings from a prison phone. It's fitting that Max B link up with another notorious figure in music, Isaiah Toothtaker, on Toothy Wavy. Between the two of them, there's plenty of stories to be shared.
Still waiting appeal, Max B's phone raps express no remorse nor indication that he's even incarcerated. He's still issuing threats and bragging about housekeepers, using rubbers, and jet-ski excursions with the crew. The limitations on Max B's contribution to the record place a considerable weight on Isaiah Toothtaker to flesh out the tracks provided by The Hood Internet. On opening cut “Champion Cuffer” Max B crafts a rare hook, but the remainder are handled by Toothtaker, who's grown increasing comfortable with a sing-songy flow that is both silky and gruff from swigging cognac and puffing cigars. On “Been Told” he effortlessly transitions his “whoa-whoaA” croon into a verse that extends the rhyme off that last “whoaA” into a “fuck the police and fuck my P.O.-ooh” declaration.
