Blitzen Trapper, the experimental folk-rockers based out of Portland, are continuing their productive spree following 2008's Black River Killer EP and 2010's Destroyer of the Void with a new album, American Goldwing, due out September 13 on Sub Pop.
In a press release, lead singer Eric Earley states that American Goldwing is him “trying to evoke a true American nostalgia,” and the band's promo video confirms this—it drips with 'traditional American' sentiment: hand-clapping, campfires, harmonica, sitting in truck beds, gazing wistfully…. (etc.)
The album covers diverse subjects, “ranging from falling in love to drug running good old boys and the final high school dance” and promises to keep in the band's experimental spirit, merging hard guitar rock and country influences with “space-aging technology and pawn shop Casios.” As of now, there's no tracklist, but the group will be heading out on a North American tour beginning in July 19th to introduce their new material to fans.
