Brooklyn label Famous Class has released the sixth entry of their Less Artists More Condo's 7-inch series featuring new songs from Cass McCombs and White Magic. Following up the previous edition from Hunx, on “If You Loved Me Before…”, the nomadic McCombs takes a left turn in the mood with a career-high level of melancholy, offering a minimalistic, reflective track with the desolate strums of a grating guitar and some very somber synths. Someone might have thought to remind Cass that this is for charity, not for the soundtrack of the saddest part of the most depressing movie ever made. White Magic's contribution is a bit more upbeat and has singer/songwriter Mira Billotte gently dancing along the ivories as she enchants with her charming vocals.
The LAMC series got started as a tribute to the late label co-founder Ariel Panero, who also launched Less Artists More Condos, a D.I.Y booking group that specialized in throwing concerts in alternative venues throughout New York City. Previous editions have seen entries from A Place To Bury Strangers, Thee Oh Sees, The Mallard and Deerhoof with all proceeds from purchases going towards the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1 Save the Music charity. All are available for sale digitally through the Famous Class bandcamp.
