By chance, the Run The Jewels tour happened to stop at the Ready Room in St. Louis last night. Just about an hour and a half after a grand jury announced the clearing of 28-year-old Ferguson Police Department Officer Darren Wilson, meaning he would be accountable for zero criminal or legal wrongdoing for shooting and killing unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown, Killer Mike and El-P took the stage. “I would like to give all thoughts and prayers to the people who are out there peacefully protesting,” Killer Mike said before the set. “I would also like to give thoughts and prayers to the people who can not hold their anger in. Because riots are only the language of the unheard.” He followed up with a powerful and eloquent message on racism, poverty, fear, and injustice: “It is about greed, it is about poverty, it is about a war machine … I might go tomorrow, I might go the day after. The one thing I want you to know is… It is us against a mother fucking machine.” Watch the entire speech below, followed by a performance of “Run The Jewels”.
