Harrisonburg, Virginia’s MACROCK Festival is entering its 18th year of existence all the while maintaining their strictly-DIY, not-for-profit ethos. The festival, initially run by local James Madison University’s WXJM radio station, is now an entirely independent volunteer-run organization that adheres religiously to the independently spirited part of the music industry. Beyond hosting bands, the festival does a label expo for up-and-coming labels (notably Merge Records and Funny/Not Funny Records in past years) and music zines, and hosts panels on the ever discussable ‘state of the independent industry’. This years initial lineup includes Two Inch Astronaut, Crying, Priests, Eskimeaux, Elvis Depressedly, and others.
The festival takes place April 3 and 4. More information can be found here.
