London-based Ghost Babes Records has announced their first compilation, the aptly titled Compilation Vol. 1, which includes songs from Impose regulars LVL UP, The So So Glos, Bellows, as well as several other Brooklyn and more geographically diverse American artists. The compilation includes 12 songs, all previously released here in the US, reissued for limited release on cassette across the Atlantic. The compilation is Ghost Babes’ first release and is entirely indicative of the mission of the label. Founder Ellie Coden has described her mission as being “inspired by great US underground labels like Kanine and Exploding in Sound,” and focused on fostering the indie community in the way that both those and so many other small labels here in the States do. The cassette aesthetic, however burgeoning in those same indie communities Stateside, is not quite as common in the UK; when asked about her choice of releasing the compilation on cassette Coden said that, “having a release on cassette would bring me closer to the US tape scene that inspired [her].”
The cassette comes out February 23 and is currently available for pre-order via Ghost Babes Bandcamp.
