Modest Mouse announce reissues, plus a new (old) track

Post Author:

After a few dry years, Modest Mouse fans finally have something to look forward to this fall. Glacial Pace and Fat Possum are putting out vinyl reissues of This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About and The Lonesome Crowded West.

Alongside the reissues, the band is releasing a new 7″ single with previously unreleased songs from each album’s recording sessions. The Long Drive 7″ includes “White Lies, Yellow Teeth,” which delivers all the elements of an early Modest Mouse tune—it’s a sprawling lo-fi piece featuring sections of choppy, driving guitar against Isaac Brock’s strained vocals. As Brock repeats, “White lies fall off my yellow teeth, I didn’t convince you but I did me,” he ingrains his own frustration with himself. The lyrics recall the similarly introspective line from “Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset” where he insists, “My mind changes so much I can’t even trust myself.” You can experience the same familiar self-deprecating tone all over again with the reissue.

Stream “White Lies, Yellow Teeth” below, and look out for the Long Drive reissue on October 28 (preorder here) and The Lonesome Crowded West on November 4 (preorder here).
