After a mysterious decision to do no real anticipatory press, an announcement yesterday proclaimed that drum mega-heros Matt Cameron, Zach Hill, and Janet Weiss had teamed up to make a record under the name DRUMGASM. The trio, whose forces have appeared in bands like Sleater-Kinney, Pearl Jam, Hella, Quasi, Soundgarden, Wild Flag, Death Grips, and Boredoms—would be announcing a record soon. Then, within 24 hours, there was a link announcing the debut self-titled album, which will release on Jackpot Records on August 27 and is available for preorder here. According to Jackpot, the whole thing was recorded thusly: “Three people, three drum kits, some microphones and a reel of tape—that’s it: pure spontaneity.”
There is no available track to stream, but we're guessing you could probably just put your mind to it and make the sounds appear before you. It's going to be some real cacophonic, chaotic aggression, we can at least anticipate that.
