Last week we presented you with the first-ever show at DBA, so it’s only fitting that we show you the set that closed it down. The venerable Brooklyn all-ages venue held a week’s worth of surprise shows without ever announcing the headliner, yet regularly saw lines forming by 6pm (the first people started showing up for this show around 1:30pm). With hundreds of people left outside, it was a rather somber tone inside. While the previous secret nights felt celebratory in nature, this was clearly the final curtain call as most of the furniture, artwork and video games that adorned the walls during these final few weeks were gone. The actual “final set” was a dance party in the living space curated by WFMU DJ (and former resident) Marty McSorley (Brandon Perry), but this closing performance by Lightning Bolt and accompanying Vice welcoming party at the end was the penultimate point for a venue that’s seen many of them. Sadly, I guess it’s time to “move on.”
