Like all American political revolutions, the Bernie Sanders campaign made one of its biggest stops in New York City’s Washington Square Park. Literally rooted in activism (Washington Square Park held New York’s first labor rally—and eventual riot—in 1834), the park was the setting for a historic night that saw Spike Lee, Tim Robbins, Rosario Dawson, Vampire Weekend, and 27,000 others join Sanders in his fight against corporate greed and corruption. The crowd was estimated to be larger than the 25,000 then-Senator Obama drew to the park in 2008, with some police estimates as high as 50,000 people. Photographer Ester Segretto was there early to capture the crowd, and the speakers, on this historic night.
