Sean Na Na is the ongoing “indie-rock” branch of the Sean Tillman empire that also includes his Har Mar Superstar persona and the accompanying vodka endorsements.
The album, Family Tree -or- Must CoPe We, out on Dim Mak on June 5th, references both the tight-knit nature of Sean Na Na's members, and drugs: Must CoPe We of course referring to “Coke-Peppered Weed Mustache.” Well, duh. Their myspace page is streaming a number of catchy and clean little pop tracks that fail in my estimation to be quite as messy and wretched as the release hopes: “When pressed to find a likeness to their sound the band would probably say they sound like early Elvis Costello and The Replacements throwing up on tape the morning after an all-night bender.” Maybe some people's vomit has a poppier sheen than others… And besides, who needs the rough edges anyway. This stuff is as shiny as Tillman via Har Mar's freshly waxed back, and that's the way we want it… right?
