Before high rises and water taxies were a glimmer in Bloomberg's eyes, there was a Williamsburg inhabited by noisepunks and low rents. Parts and Labor still call the Brooklyn college town home, but they're on to bigger things, currently touring the country with ADULT. and Erase Errata and set to release their new album in a few short weeks.
Mapmaker, out May 22nd on Jagjaguwar/Brah, features much of what made their previous release, Stay Afraid, a masterpiece fusion of noise experimentalism and catchy (some might say “anthemic“) pop music. Perhaps what tracks have leaked and can be found on their myspace page indicate a slightly leaner palette of sound that relies less on constantly pulsing synths and guitar walls, instead allowing Christopher Weingarten's machine gun drum brilliance and Dan Friel's increasingly catchy, silky vocal lines to take a more central role.
And as their new album hits and the band tours, look out for four separate, exclusive tracks, albums from each members solo bands (Shooting Spires/BJ Warshaw, Poisson d'Avril/Christopher Weingarten, Dan Friel…/Dan Friel) and more dates through June/July. Just sayin.
