His MySpace page doesn't mention it but Plan B's dropping on New York's Hiro Ballroom June 21st.
The UK fervor for Ben Drew, the east London cockney accented hip hop artist who often performs armed only with an acoustic guitar aims to convince us Eminem's been reincarnated a second time. Stylistically, Drew's is another bold step away from the strictures of stereotypical thugged-down commercial rap and towards the strictures of white boy emo whinnying. But Plan B isn't trapped in the Linkin Park dog run. It might have approached that lighter-weighted brand of rap-rock fusion, if Drew didn't rap through the voice of 14-year old rapist delinquents, or about religion based domestic murder. After a few tracks off his album Who Needs Action When You Got Words, it should be clear that he's traversing some pretty virgin (though certainly not innocent) territory.
