Beck has a new song. An old new song. “Timebomb”. It's available next week digitally on iTunes, (but nowhere else until August 28), while his official website promises limited 12″ vinyl releases as well. Speculation is that the track will feature the results of Jamie Lidell's recent work with Beck at LA studio Infrasonic, since the press release promises “a whole gang of studio visitors on back-up vocals.” It also promises some of the “dark themes” left on last year's The Information, along with “digital gris gris thunder”. I had to look that one up myself.
Whiskeyclone.net, the delightfully obsessive fan site devoted to every arcane corner of the man's output, reports Beck has performed “Timebomb” six times live.
And, thank god it comes out now and not at the beginning of September. Not because it's “a song for bonfires, blackouts, and the last hurrah of summer,” but because releasing a single in an album-less vacuum is almost as news worthy as the non-existent beef between 50 and Kanye the media keeps trying to stir into a perfect storm.
Lyrics, sort of:
We got a time bomb
We got a time bomb
We got a time bomb
Na na na na
We got a time bomb
We got a time bomb
Tick tick tick
Na na na na
Doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo
We got a time bomb
We got a time bomb
Tick tick tick
Na na na na
We got a submarine
We got a remedy
We got a ??
Na na na na
Time bomb ticking
Time bomb ticking
Time bomb ticking
Time bomb ticking
We're going sideways
High rise
Riding on an Escalade
Elevators out of date
Taking them the long way
Riding the lightning
And tightening above the buckles
On another ?? time bombs
Tick tick tick
Doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo
