The left coast’s reigning left-field metal duo The Body announced a new album this morning, entitled No One Deserves Happiness, and shared its leading track, “Shelter is Illusory”. The upcoming full-length, due March 18 via Thrill Jockey, follows a mighty spate of collaborative work. In 2014, the group composed of Chip King and Lee Buford teamed with English producer The Haxan Cloak for I Shall Die Here—an eviscerated electronic deconstruction of The Body’s particular doom—and then issued titles in collaboration with Thou and Krieg. On tour, Thou and The Body performed together in concert as well, even mustering a barnburner version of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”. Perhaps the cover was telling: No One Deserves Happiness‘ press release name-checks Beyonce; we’re to believe it’s their pop album. At any rate, “Shelter is Illusory” features Humanbeast’s Maralie Armstrong, whose buoyant vocals coast atop a melee of thumping toms, synthesized percussion, and The Body’s typically tectonic slate of electric guitar.
