Iconic Fullerton, California-based label, Burger Records, brought us some mouthwatering news for the new year. The cassette home to such notable acts as Thee Oh Sees and Ryan Adams, Burger is currently midway through their plan to release a tape everyday for the month of January. Among the line up are Ty Segall/Mikal Cronin, Adolescents, Free Weed, Slaughter Joe, and many more. In the vein of good tidings also comes word of three new full length releases from Peach Kelli Pop, The Resonars, and The Go. Burger Records is thoughtful enough to give us a sample from each record.
Peach Kelli Pop is the feisty music child of Ottawa native, Allie Hanlon, and her track “Panchito Blues ii” is a surfy smack to the face loaded with jovial guitar and a flurry of drums. It comes dangerously close to the likes of Best Coast, but a bit more punchy and not as monotonous.
“A City Out of Reach” by Tuscon, Arizona's, The Resonars, begins and ends with a folky jangle. Don't let the plural band name fool you, The Resonars is Matt Rendon, and he writes and records every instrument by himself. The meat of the track brings to our ears the 60's pop vibe we all feel at least a little nostalgic for. It's remarkable how a Zonie can sound so English.
“It Always Happens To You” is a (dare I say it?) Beatle-esque pop tune by The Go, a band that Jack White was once a part of. The song ricochets pleasantly in our ears and the chorus is so damn catchy. Fiesta will be released January 22.
